Compatibility & scope
Based on three editions of LG's English (UK/EU) webOS TV user guide (w23_mr3_eu03, w24_mr2_eu03, w25_e02), which LG's UK support pages link for the 2023 C3, 2024 C4 and 2025 C5 OLED TVs. The Software Update section is the same in all three. LG says the options vary by model and that Auto Update may be hidden in some countries without an internet connection. The guides don't describe updating from a USB drive, where to download update files, the screens shown during an update, or where to see the installed software version. App updates are not covered. The 2014 LB-series TVs covered elsewhere on this site have different menus. Documentation reviewed; no TV tested for this article.

Where LG’s software update is
On a 2023–2025 LG webOS TV, press the Settings (gear) button on the remote, select All Settings, then go to Support → Software Update. There you can run Check for Updates to look for a newer version now, and turn Auto Update on so the TV installs updates without asking.
The TV also checks its software version by itself, so a manual check is only needed when you want an update straight away. An update can only be installed when LG has a newer version than the one on your TV.
Before you start
- Connect the TV to the internet if you can. LG says updates arrive over the internet or through the digital broadcast signal. In some countries, Auto Update doesn’t appear at all while the TV is offline.
- Keep the TV plugged in. LG says the TV doesn’t fully go into standby until an update has finished installing.
- Expect the TV to use more power while it updates. LG notes this.
Check for an update now
- Press the Settings (gear) button on the remote.
- Select All Settings (the gear icon on screen).
- Go to Support → Software Update.
- Select Check for Updates.
- If a newer version is available, follow the prompts on screen to install it. If there isn’t one, there’s nothing to install.
LG’s guides don’t describe the screens you see during the update. While it installs, the screen may turn off if nobody presses a button for 4 hours. That’s expected: the TV keeps installing and only goes fully into standby when it’s done.
Turn Auto Update on or off
In the same Support → Software Update menu, set Auto Update:
- On: the TV installs updates by itself, without asking you first. LG says some important updates are an exception and still ask for confirmation.
- Off: LG’s guides describe only what On does. With it off, use Check for Updates from time to time to install updates yourself.
LG warns that if the software isn’t updated, some functions may not work properly.
If the update stops or doesn’t appear
- Auto Update is missing from the menu: in some countries it’s hidden while the TV isn’t connected to the internet. Connect the TV to your network and look again.
- A download over the broadcast signal stopped: LG says changing the channel during a broadcast download interrupts it. Go back to the channel you were watching and the download continues.
- Check for Updates finds nothing to install: LG says you can only update when a later version than yours is available, so there’s no update for your TV at the moment.
- Options differ from this page: LG says the available items depend on the model.
LG’s guides don’t describe updating from a USB drive, so this page doesn’t cover it. If your TV can’t get an update over the internet or broadcast, ask LG support for your model.
Common questions
Why didn’t Always Ready work the first time after an update?
LG says that the first time you turn the TV off after a software update, Always Ready doesn’t work while the TV applies the update. Turn the TV off and on again, and Always Ready works as before. See turning off Always Ready for what the mode does.
Where can I see which software version my TV has?
LG’s guides don’t say. They describe Support → TV Information as showing information including the model, serial number and device name, without mentioning the software version.
