Compatibility & scope
Based on three editions of LG's English (UK/EU) webOS TV user guide, which LG's UK support pages link for the 2023 C3, 2024 C4 and 2025 C5 OLED TVs. LG states that Always Ready, Hands-free Voice Control and the motion sensor are not supported on some models, and option names vary slightly between editions. The guides do not give standby power figures. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware tested for this article.

Why the screen doesn’t go dark
If your LG TV shows a picture, clock or wallpaper after you press Power, Always Ready is on. With Always Ready, pressing Power doesn’t fully switch the TV off. It goes into a standby mode that can keep a wallpaper on screen, respond to voice commands and play sound from a phone over Bluetooth.
To make Power switch the TV fully off, press the Settings (gear) button on the remote, then go to All Settings → General → Always Ready and set Enable the function to Off.
Turn Always Ready off
- Press the Settings (gear) button on the remote.
- Select All Settings (the gear icon on screen).
- Go to General → Always Ready.
- Set Enable the function to Off.
Now, pressing Power while you watch turns the TV off right away.
What you lose: LG says that with Always Ready off, features such as the Bluetooth connection and Hands-free Voice Control won’t work while the TV is off. LG also notes that energy use may increase while Always Ready is on.
Keep Always Ready but hide the wallpaper
If you want voice control or Bluetooth playback while the TV is off, but no picture on screen, keep Always Ready on and get rid of the wallpaper instead:
- Change it permanently: in General → Always Ready, select Use Always Ready without wallpaper. It’s called Use Always Ready without wallpaper (LG Gallery+) in the 2025 guide. After that, pressing Power goes straight to Always Ready with the screen off.
- Just this time: while the wallpaper is showing, press Power once more. The screen goes off and Always Ready stays on.
Use the remote with Always Ready on
LG’s user guides describe these button actions:
| Situation | Button | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Watching TV | Power once | Always Ready, screen on (wallpaper) |
| Watching TV | Power twice | Always Ready, screen off |
| Wallpaper showing | Home or Back | Back to watching TV |
| Wallpaper showing | Power | Screen off; Always Ready stays on |
| Screen off in Always Ready | Power | Back to watching TV |
| Screen off in Always Ready | Wheel (OK) | Wallpaper comes back on |
Check whether the TV is really off
LG says the standby light shows the state on models with Hands-free Voice Control. During Always Ready, the light is white if Hands-free Voice Control is on and red if it isn’t. A white light doesn’t mean the TV failed to turn off.
LG’s 2025 guide notes that after a software update, Always Ready doesn’t work the first time you turn the TV off. Turn it off and on again to start using it.
Common questions
Is Always Ready the same as Quick Start+?
No. In LG’s guides, Quick Start+ (General → System → Additional Settings) puts the TV in standby so it starts faster next time. Always Ready keeps a wallpaper, voice control and Bluetooth audio available while the TV is off. Both can increase energy use.
Why doesn’t my TV have Always Ready?
LG says some models don’t support it. If General → Always Ready isn’t in your menu, check the user guide linked from your model’s LG support page.
