Install apps on an LG TV: sign in, Apps, Install, and removing apps (2023–2025 webOS)

Sign in to an LG account, then install an app from Apps on a 2023–2025 LG webOS TV. Also how to update or delete apps, what to do when storage runs out, and how to lock apps.

Applies to: LG webOS TVs whose user guide matches LG's 2023–2025 editions (for example the C3, C4 and C5 OLEDs); not 2014 LB-series TVs.

Compatibility & scope

Based on three editions of LG's English (UK/EU) webOS TV user guide (w23_mr3_eu03, w24_mr2_eu03, w25_e02), which LG's UK support pages link for the 2023 C3, 2024 C4 and 2025 C5 OLED TVs. The install steps are the same in all three; the labels differ slightly (2023/2024: Launch Apps and the Search button, LG Account Management on Home, Reset App Order; 2025: Apps and the search icon, an account icon on Home, Reset Editing Apps). LG says the app categories depend on the country and service status. The guides don't list which apps are offered in each country, don't describe the update screen inside Apps, and don't say how much storage the TV has. Documentation reviewed; no TV tested for this article.

Sign in, then install from Apps

To install an app on a 2023–2025 LG webOS TV, press the Home button, open Apps, find the app by category or search, select it and press Install. You can open it as soon as the install finishes.

You must be signed in to an LG account first, and the TV must be online. If you aren’t signed in yet, do that first; the steps are below. Which apps and categories you see depends on your country and LG’s service status.

Before you start

  • Connect the TV to the internet. LG’s account steps start with connecting the TV to the network. If it won’t connect, see LG TV won’t connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Have an LG account, or be ready to create one. You can create it on the TV with an email address, or sign up using the ID and password of an external service account. LG sends a verification link to the email address, and you must verify it before you can sign in. LG says age restrictions may apply and the feature may not be available in some countries.

Sign in to your LG account on the TV

  1. Press the Home button on the remote.
  2. Select the account icon (a person) on the Home screen. In the 2023 and 2024 guides it’s called LG Account Management.
  3. Pick one of the suggested sign-in methods and sign in.
  4. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up from the same screen: agree to the User Agreements, enter the details asked for (these vary by country), open the verification email LG sends and confirm your address within the time limit, then sign in.

The TV remembers accounts you’ve used. In the 2025 guide it keeps up to 10 and drops the oldest when you add more; you switch between them from Home → LG Account.

Install an app

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. Open Apps on the Home screen.
  3. Browse a category, or select the search icon to look the app up by name (the 2023 and 2024 guides call it the Search button).
  4. Select the app.
  5. Read its details and press Install.
  6. When installation completes, you can run the app straight away.

Update or delete an app

  • Update or manage apps: inside Apps, the options icon lets you manage installed apps, such as updating or deleting them. LG’s guides don’t describe those screens step by step.
  • Delete an app from the Home screen: press Home, highlight the app in the app list, then press and hold the Wheel (OK) button to enter Edit App List (or select Edit App List at the end of the list). Select the trash-can icon above the app, then select Close at the bottom of the screen to finish.

LG says default apps can’t be deleted. In the same edit mode you can also move apps, and the 2025 guide adds a hide icon for taking an app off the list without deleting it. To put the app order back to the factory layout, the 2025 guide uses Reset Editing Apps; the 2023 and 2024 guides call it Reset App Order (in the 2023 guide it’s under the More Actions button while editing).

If the app won’t install

  • Not signed in: LG says you must be signed in to install apps. Sign in as above and try again.
  • The app or category isn’t there: availability depends on the country and service status. LG’s guides don’t offer a way around that.
  • The TV is out of storage: LG says you can install apps by connecting an external memory device to the TV’s USB port (see using USB storage on a 2023–2025 LG TV). Some USB storage devices aren’t supported or may not work properly, and a USB stick holding apps from another LG TV may not be usable. LG’s USB tips for these TVs ask for a drive formatted as FAT32, exFAT or NTFS.
  • Forgot your LG account password: on the TV’s sign-in screen, select Forgot Password? and enter your email address. LG sends a link to reset it. You can also reset it on LG’s website (www.lgappstv.com).

Lock apps for children

LG warns that children may reach unsuitable online content through apps. To lock individual apps:

  1. Press the Settings (gear) button and select All Settings.
  2. Go to General → System → Safety and set Enable the function to On.
  3. Open Application Locks and lock the apps you choose.

LG says a lock doesn’t take effect straight away on an app that’s already running. The TV’s default password is 0000, or 1234 if the country is set to France, Norway or Belgium. You can change it with Reset Password in the same menu.

Common questions

Do I need an LG account to install apps?

Yes. LG’s guides say you must be logged in to install apps. An account you create on the TV also works on LG’s website and, according to the 2024 and 2025 guides, in the LG ThinQ app.

How do I close an app that keeps running in the background?

The 2023 and 2024 guides say to press More Actions and select Quit App. On remotes without a More Actions button, press and hold the Yellow button instead.
