Compatibility & scope
Based on three editions of LG's English (UK/EU) webOS TV user guide (w23_mr3_eu03, w24_mr2_eu03, w25_e02), which LG's UK support pages link for the 2023 C3, 2024 C4 and 2025 C5 OLED TVs. Other LG models may link the same editions, but LG notes that features and menus vary by model, and region affects the default password. Older LG TVs, including the 2014 LB-series covered elsewhere on this site, have different menus. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware tested for this article.

Reset to Initial Settings is LG’s factory reset
On LG webOS TVs covered by LG’s 2023–2025 user guides, the factory reset is called Reset to Initial Settings. Press the Settings (gear) button on the remote, then go to All Settings → General → System → Reset to Initial Settings. Choose Reset All, or keep your network with Reset all except network settings. The TV turns off and on again by itself.
If Safety is on, the TV asks for your password before it resets.
Choose the right reset option
LG’s user guides list two choices:
- Reset All returns every setting to its default.
- Reset all except network settings resets everything except the network settings, so the TV can stay on your Wi-Fi.
LG recommends using Reset to Initial Settings before you sell the TV or give it to someone else. Use Reset All in that case.
If you only want to undo picture changes, there’s a smaller reset: Picture → Advanced Settings → Reset resets the settings for the current picture mode.
Reset the TV
- Press the Settings (gear) button on the remote. You can also press and hold it to open All Settings directly.
- Select All Settings (the gear icon on screen), then General → System → Reset to Initial Settings.
- Choose Reset All or Reset all except network settings.
- Enter the Safety password if the TV asks for it.
- Leave the TV plugged in while it resets. LG warns not to turn off the power during initialization. The TV turns off and back on automatically.
If you don’t know the password
The TV asks for a password only when Safety is turned on. LG’s user guides give 0000 as the default. If France, Norway or Belgium is selected as the country, the default is 1234.
If you changed the password and forgot it, LG documents a reset:
- Press Settings, then go to All Settings → General → System → Safety.
- On the remote, press the programme (channel) buttons in this order: Up, Up, Down, Up.
- A master password window appears. Enter 0313.
The password resets. Then start the factory reset again.
If your menus look different
These steps match LG’s 2023–2025 webOS user guides. If you don’t see General → System, your TV may use an older or newer menu layout. LG’s support site links the right user guide from each model’s page. For the 2014 LB-series, see this site’s LB-series guides, which use a different menu.
Common questions
Will a reset remove my apps and LG account?
LG’s guides say Reset All returns all settings to their defaults. They don’t list every item it removes. Be ready to sign in again to your LG account and apps afterwards.
How do I know these steps match my TV?
Look up your model code on LG’s support site. Its model page links the user guide written for that TV; check that guide’s Reset to Initial Settings section.
