Press Wheel (OK) to pair
Turn on the TV, point the Magic Remote at it, and press the centre of the Wheel (OK) button. That registers the remote with a 2014 LG LB-series TV. LG’s manual for these TVs lists the AN-MR500 Magic Remote; other remotes and newer TVs may pair differently.
Register the remote
- Fit 1.5 V AA batteries in the Magic Remote, matching the polarity marks in the compartment. Don’t mix old and new batteries.
- Turn on the TV.
- Aim the remote at the TV and press Wheel (OK) once.
- Try moving around the TV’s menus. If the TV doesn’t register the remote, turn the TV off and on again, then press Wheel (OK) again.
Unpair and register again
Hold Back and Smarthome together for five seconds to unpair the remote from the TV. Then repeat the registration steps above.
On remotes with an EXIT to LIVE button, LG says pressing and holding it cancels and re-registers the remote in one step.
Check range and interference
- Use the remote within 10 metres of the TV. Obstacles can interrupt it.
- Keep your wireless router more than 1 metre from the TV.
- Microwave ovens and wireless LAN equipment share the remote’s 2.4 GHz band and can interfere.
If the arrow buttons work but the pointer has disappeared, the remote is still paired. Try the pointer checks instead of unpairing.
If it still won’t pair
Check the full TV and remote model numbers against LG’s documentation; a remote that isn’t compatible won’t pair. Meanwhile you can use the TV’s joystick for basic controls. If a compatible remote still won’t register, contact LG support.
Newer LG TVs have their own pairing steps; for 2023–2025 webOS models, see Pair, re-register or unpair an LG Magic Remote on a 2023–2025 webOS TV.
Common questions
Why does the LG manual mention both AA and AAA batteries?
It covers two remotes. The Magic Remote on page 44 uses 1.5 V AA batteries, and the ordinary remote on page 42 uses 1.5 V AAA. Check the markings in your remote’s battery compartment.
