Check for a missing signal and the timers
A 2014 LG LB-series TV switches itself off in two documented situations:
- No signal: if the TV is on but receives no signal, it turns off automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity. A player or PC that stops sending a picture can trigger this.
- Timers: Automatic Standby (on some models), Sleep Timer or Timer Power Off is active in the Timers settings.
LG also says to check the power control settings, as the power supply may be interrupted.
Check the timers
- Note when the TV turns off: at the same clock time, or after a similar length of time.
- Open the Timers settings and see which of Automatic Standby, Sleep Timer and Timer Power Off is on.
- Turn off the one you don’t want, then watch whether the TV still switches off.
If you can’t find the Timers settings, open the TV’s built-in User Guide: press Smarthome, select User Guide and press Wheel (OK).
If the TV turns off while something is playing
The 15-minute rule only applies when there’s no signal. If the TV switches off while your source is still playing, note that when you describe the problem to support, because it points to something other than an idle input. For a PC that keeps losing its picture, work through the HDMI no-signal checks first.
If none of this explains it
If no timer or no-signal condition matches, contact LG support with the full model number. Don’t open the TV.
This page covers the 2014 LB-series. Newer LG TVs have different power options, such as Always Ready, which keeps a wallpaper on screen after you press Power. See turning off Always Ready and the other LG guides.
