Select the input the PC is plugged into
If a 2014 LG LB-series TV shows No signal or Invalid Format with a PC connected over HDMI or DVI, first switch the TV to the input the cable is actually plugged into. The input number has to match the port, not just the device type. Use the remote’s input button or the joystick’s INPUT menu on the TV.
Try LG’s three-step fix
If the right input is selected and the message stays, LG’s troubleshooting table gives this sequence:
- Turn the TV off and on again using the remote.
- Unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in.
- Restart the PC while the TV is on.
You don’t need to reset the TV, reinstall apps or change network settings for this problem.
If the picture appears but looks wrong
In PC mode, LG says you may see noise related to the resolution, a vertical pattern, contrast or brightness. Try these in turn until the picture is clear:
- Change the PC’s output resolution.
- Change the PC’s refresh rate.
- Adjust brightness and contrast in the TV’s PICTURE menu.
Some resolutions may not work with some graphics cards. LG’s manual doesn’t give a single resolution that works for every PC, so check the specifications for your full TV model when choosing one.
No sound over a DVI-to-HDMI cable
HDMI carries both picture and sound. A DVI-to-HDMI cable carries only the picture, so LG’s instructions add a separate audio cable for sound. If you see the PC’s picture but hear nothing over DVI, connect the audio cable as shown for your model; a new video cable won’t fix it.
Find more help on the TV
On the Magic Remote, press Smarthome, select User Guide and press Wheel (OK). Some remotes have a dedicated User Guide button. The built-in guide covers settings for your exact model.
Newer LG TVs use different menus; see the LG guides for 2023–2025 webOS models.
