Update a VIDAA TV's software online, and what a USB update needs

Check a VIDAA TV's software version and update it over the internet with Check Update or Auto Update, using Hisense's 2025 U9 e-manual. Also covers the drive Update from USB needs and what to do if an update won't finish.

Applies to: VIDAA TVs with the U9 menus in Hisense's 2025 VIDAA U9 e-manual (hosted on Hisense Chile for models such as 58Q6QV); Auto Update isn't on every model.

Compatibility & scope

Based on Hisense's English e-manual whose PDF metadata title is E-Manual MT9603 VIDAA U9 NA/SA (the manual prints no date or version; the PDF was created in 2025), downloaded from Hisense Chile (hisense.cl), where it is hosted for the 58Q6QV, 40Q4SV and 50A4NV. These are model codes from Hisense Chile's site; equivalent models elsewhere and other TV brands that run VIDAA may differ, and the manual says menus vary by model, country and region. It documents the System Update options and the USB drive requirements, but not where to obtain a USB update file, what the file is called, or what the TV shows during an update. It gives no instruction about power interruptions during an update. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware tested.

Update from Settings → Support → System Update

On VIDAA TVs that match Hisense’s 2025 U9 e-manual, press Home, open Settings and go to Support → System Update. With the TV connected to the internet, select Check Update; the TV checks its software version and updates if needed. You can also switch on Auto Update so it updates by itself, on models that offer it.

If the TV can’t get online, the same screen has Update from USB, which installs an update file from a USB drive. The manual doesn’t say where to get that file; Hisense support for your country is the place to ask.

Check which version you have

Press Home and open Settings → Support → About. This shows system information, including the software version. Note it down before you update, so you can tell afterwards whether the update went through.

Update over the internet

  1. Make sure the TV is connected to the internet. If you’re not sure, run Settings → Connection → Network → Internet Connection → Connection Test.
  2. Press Home and open Settings → Support → System Update.
  3. Select Check Update. If there’s newer software, the TV updates.
  4. Give it time. Hisense says an update takes a couple of minutes.
  5. When it’s done, check Settings → Support → About again to see the new version.

The manual doesn’t describe the screens or messages you’ll see during the update.

Keep the TV up to date automatically

On the same System Update screen, switch on Auto Update. The TV then installs the latest software by itself. Hisense notes that some models don’t support this setting; if it isn’t there, use Check Update from time to time.

If the TV can’t update online: what Update from USB needs

The manual documents the drive and menu requirements for a USB update, but not where the update file comes from or what happens after you start it. Use this route only when the TV can’t update online and you have an update file for your model.

  1. Get the update file for your TV model. The manual doesn’t say where it comes from or what it’s called, so ask Hisense support for your country.
  2. Prepare a USB drive. It must be formatted as FAT32 with an MBR partition table. Formatting a drive erases everything on it, so copy off anything you want to keep first.
  3. Copy the update file to the root of the drive (not inside a folder).
  4. Plug the drive into a USB port on the TV.
  5. Press Home and open Settings → Support → System Update → Update from USB.

The manual stops there: it doesn’t describe the steps after you select Update from USB. If you’re not sure what to do next, ask Hisense support before going further. Afterwards, check About to confirm the version changed.

The TV reads NTFS drives for photos and music, but for updates the manual specifically asks for FAT32 with MBR, so a drive that works for media may still not work for an update.

If the update doesn’t finish

  1. Wait. Hisense says the update takes a couple of minutes.
  2. Check the internet connection. Run the network test above. If it fails, get the TV back online first, then try again.
  3. Restart the TV. Turn it off, unplug it from the wall, wait 60 seconds, plug it back in and turn it on, then try Check Update again. A restart doesn’t clear your settings.
  4. Use a USB drive. If the online update still fails, Hisense suggests updating from USB instead. You need an update file for your model (ask Hisense support) and a drive prepared as described above.

Something stopped working after the update

Hisense says the system may be unstable just after an update. Restart the TV first, as above. If the problem stays, the manual’s next step is a factory reset, which clears your personal settings, information and data: see the VIDAA factory reset guide and treat it as a last resort.

Common questions

Is it the same as updating apps?

No. System Update updates the TV’s own software. Apps are installed and managed through the VIDAA app store; see installing apps on a VIDAA TV.

Do I need to update before using the troubleshooting steps?

Hisense’s troubleshooting guide lists checking for the latest software among the first things to try, alongside its self-diagnosis tests and a restart.
