Switch inputs on a VIDAA TV: Home screen or Input button

Choose a connected HDMI device on a VIDAA TV through Home → Inputs or, on the 2025 U9 layout, the Input button, then check the cable, the device's output and the TV's self-diagnosis tests if there's no picture.

Applies to: VIDAA TVs with Home → Inputs (Hisense’s 2021 manual) or the Input button and Home-screen input icon in Hisense’s 2025 VIDAA U9 NA/SA e-manual.

Compatibility & scope

The Home → Inputs branch is based on the 2021 Hisense-hosted manual whose PDF metadata identifies VIDAA U4.2. The hosted file is named for 40A4GV; the cover does not list every supported model. The U9 branch is based on Hisense's English e-manual whose PDF metadata title is E-Manual MT9603 VIDAA U9 NA/SA (the manual prints no date or version; the PDF was created in 2025), downloaded from Hisense Chile (hisense.cl), where it is hosted for the models 58Q6QV, 40Q4SV and 50A4NV; remotes vary by country, and the quick-access button is only on some remotes. Use these instructions only where the named controls match your TV. Features and services vary by model and region. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware tested.

Choose the input your device is plugged into

To switch to a games console, player or other connected device on a VIDAA TV, open the list of inputs and select the one your device is plugged into. For HDMI, match the input to the label next to the TV socket you used. How you open the list depends on your TV’s layout:

  • Older layout (Hisense’s 2021 manual): press Home and open Inputs.
  • Newer U9 layout (Hisense’s 2025 VIDAA U9 e-manual): press the remote’s Input button, or press Home and move to the input icon next to your apps.

Select the connected device (older layout)

  1. Check which TV socket the device is plugged into, using the label on the TV.
  2. Turn the device on.
  3. Press Home on the TV remote (the house button).
  4. Open Inputs and select that socket’s input.

The device’s picture should appear.

Select the connected device (2025 U9 layout)

  1. Check which TV socket the device is plugged into, and turn the device on.
  2. Press the Input button on the remote. Depending on the remote, it’s labelled INPUT or shows a square with an arrow pointing into it. Without that button, press Home and move to the input icon next to your apps.
  3. Press down to go to the row of inputs.
  4. Press left or right to highlight the input you want.
  5. Press OK.

To give an input an easier name, highlight it in the same row and press and hold OK. Some inputs can’t be renamed.

Some remotes have a customisable button (marked with a heart and plus sign, a pencil, or EDIT). Press and hold it, choose an input and select Save to make it a one-press shortcut to that input.

If the input shows no picture

  1. Check the input again: selecting one HDMI input won’t show a device plugged into another.
  2. Check that the cable is firmly connected at both ends.
  3. Check the device’s own video output setting. Hisense says some devices, such as DVD players, must be set to output an HDMI signal in their settings; see the device’s manual.

HDMI carries both picture and sound, so you don’t need a separate audio cable.

If the input and cable are right and there’s still no picture, the TV’s Settings → Support → Self Diagnosis → Picture Test shows whether the TV itself displays a picture. If the test is normal, Hisense says the problem may be with the external device. Note the socket, device and any on-screen message before contacting support.

Extra checks on the 2025 U9 layout

  • If the picture or sound keeps cutting out, unplug the TV’s power cord, wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Run Settings → Support → Self Diagnosis → Input Connection Test. You choose an input and the TV shows information about its external connection. Note what it reports before contacting support.

Control the device with the TV remote

Switching inputs doesn’t automatically let the TV remote control the device. That’s a separate feature, HDMI-CEC, and the device must support it. Where to turn it on depends on the layout:

If your TV has neither a Home-screen Inputs entry nor an Input button or input icon, it uses a different VIDAA layout; check the guide for your model.
