Compatibility & scope
Based on Hisense's English e-manual whose PDF metadata title is E-Manual MT9603 VIDAA U9 NA/SA (the manual prints no date or version; the PDF was created in 2025), downloaded from Hisense Chile (hisense.cl), where it is hosted for the 58Q6QV, 40Q4SV and 50A4NV. These are model codes from Hisense Chile's site; equivalent models elsewhere and other TV brands that run VIDAA may differ. The manual says the TV must support AirPlay, that AirPlay and HomeKit may not be available in some models, countries or regions, and that a TV without AirPlay in its inputs may not support it yet. It lists no AirPlay models and no iOS versions; the iPhone and iPad steps follow Hisense's manual and Apple's support page, and Apple's menus may change with iOS updates. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware or Apple device tested.

Check for AirPlay, turn it on, then pick the TV on your iPhone
You can AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad to a VIDAA TV only if the TV supports AirPlay. The quick check is the TV’s list of inputs: on TVs that match Hisense’s 2025 U9 e-manual, a TV with AirPlay shows an AirPlay entry there, and Hisense says a TV without one may not support AirPlay yet.
If it’s there, connect the iPhone and TV to the same network, turn AirPlay on in the TV’s AirPlay and HomeKit Settings, then choose the TV from Screen Mirroring in the iPhone’s Control Center, or from the AirPlay icon in an app. The same works from a Mac, according to the manual.
The manual’s other mirroring feature, Screen Sharing, is for Android phones and Windows PCs; Hisense points Apple devices to AirPlay. So on a TV without AirPlay, the manual gives an iPhone no other way to mirror.
Before you start
- The TV must be connected to your network. To check, go to Settings → Connection → Network → Internet Connection → Connection Test.
- Connect the iPhone or iPad to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
- Have the TV remote: you’ll turn AirPlay on from the TV.
Turn AirPlay on at the TV
Use either route:
- From the inputs: press the remote’s Input button (labelled INPUT, or showing a square with an arrow pointing into it), select AirPlay, open AirPlay and HomeKit Settings and set AirPlay to On.
- From Settings: press Home, open Settings (the gear icon) and go to Connection → AirPlay and HomeKit → AirPlay and HomeKit Settings, then set AirPlay to On.
If you aren’t sure where the input list is on your remote, see switching inputs on a VIDAA TV.
Start AirPlay on the iPhone or iPad
Pick what you want to send:
- Mirror the whole screen: open Control Center (on an iPhone X or later, swipe down from the top-right corner) and tap Screen Mirroring.
- Play a video: in an app that supports AirPlay, tap its AirPlay icon.
- Play music or a podcast: in a supported app, tap the AirPlay audio icon.
Then select your TV from the list. If an AirPlay passcode appears on the TV, type it on the iPhone or iPad to continue. Your screen, video or music should then play on the TV.
Hisense notes that the icons vary by app, that some apps make you tap another icon first, and that what you can do depends on the app and software version.
Stop AirPlay
On the TV, press Back or Exit on the remote. On the iPhone or iPad, Apple’s steps are:
- Mirroring: open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then tap Stop Mirroring.
- A video: tap the AirPlay button in the app, then choose your iPhone or iPad from the list.
If the TV isn’t listed or AirPlay doesn’t work
Hisense gives these checks in this order:
- Check the inputs for AirPlay. If there’s no AirPlay option, the TV may not support AirPlay yet, and the rest of this list won’t help.
- Use an Apple device. AirPlay works from Apple devices such as an iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- Check the TV’s network. If AirPlay is there but doesn’t work, make sure the TV is connected and the signal isn’t weak. A weak signal can make casting fail.
- Check the names on both sides.
- TV name: the name you choose on the iPhone should match the TV’s name. If several TVs share the same name in the list, try each one. To give your TV a clearer name, go to Settings → Connection → TV Name (up to 18 characters).
- Network: the TV and the iPhone must be on the same network.
- Turn AirPlay off and on. In AirPlay and HomeKit Settings, turn AirPlay off, wait a few seconds, turn it back on and try again.
- Reset paired devices. If AirPlay and HomeKit Settings has a Reset Paired Devices option, select it and follow the on-screen steps to unpair devices, then try AirPlay again.
- Power-cycle the TV. Unplug the TV’s power cord, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, turn the TV on and try again.
If none of this works, note the TV model, your iPhone or iPad model and which step failed, and contact Hisense support for your country.
Picture but no sound
Check that the TV isn’t muted and turn the volume up. If you listen through the TV’s own speakers, check that Settings → Sound → Audio Output is set to TV Speaker. A weak network signal can also delay the sound.
Common questions
Can I listen with the TV screen off?
Yes. While video or audio is playing, press the remote’s Menu button (the quick-menu button) and select Audio Only. The screen turns off and the sound carries on.
What is HomeKit in the same menu?
HomeKit lets you control the TV from your Apple devices. It’s a separate set-up: in AirPlay and HomeKit Settings, select Set Up in the HomeKit section and scan the QR code shown on the TV with your iPhone or iPad. You don’t need it for AirPlay.
Can AirPlay turn the TV on?
The manual doesn’t link AirPlay to the TV’s network wake settings. Those settings, including Wake on Cast, are covered in turning on a VIDAA TV by casting.
