Stop a Samsung TV opening Smart Hub, TV Plus or the last app at switch-on

Turn off Start with Smart Hub Home (Autorun Smart Hub on older TVs), Autorun Samsung TV Plus and Autorun Last App, so your Samsung TV stops opening them at switch-on. Paths for each menu layout.

Applies to: Samsung smart TVs covered by Samsung's 2017–2026 e-manuals (M to H series). Autorun Samsung TV Plus is only on some newer models; the menu path depends on the TV's software.

Compatibility & scope

Based on Samsung's EU English e-manuals for M- to H-series TVs (as listed on Samsung UK support pages) and the US English 2023 and 2026 e-manuals, with the 2024 and 2025 US manuals checked for the path. Manuals are shared by many models; the covers don't list every model. C-series TVs appear with Start Screen Options under both General & Privacy and Advanced Features, depending on software. Autorun Samsung TV Plus appears only in the EU C-series manual (BN81-27185C-680), the EU H-series manual and the 2025–2026 US manuals, and Samsung says it depends on model and region. Only that option's description says the last used source is shown when it's off. No manual documents a setting to start on a chosen input. Documentation reviewed; no TV tested for this article.

Which setting opens what

To stop a Samsung TV opening the Home screen, Samsung TV Plus or the last app when it turns on, turn off the matching option in Start Screen Options (Smart Features on 2017–2021 TVs). There are up to three:

What opens at switch-on Setting to turn off
The Home screen (Smart Hub) Start with Smart Hub Home. On 2017–2021 TVs it’s called Autorun Smart Hub
Samsung TV Plus Autorun Samsung TV Plus (only on some newer models; see below)
The app you were using last, such as a streaming app Autorun Last App

All of them are in the same place on your TV. There is no documented setting to make the TV always start on a particular input such as HDMI 1; see What the TV shows afterwards.

Find the start-up settings on your TV

The menu around these options depends on the TV’s software, not just its year. Find the row that matches how your TV’s menu looks:

Your TV’s menu Where the options are
Settings on the Home screen leads straight to General, with no All Settings step (2017–2021 TVs: M, N, R, T and A series) Home → Settings → General → Smart Features
Home shows a Menu item (2022 B-series TVs) Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Start Screen Options
Left directional button opens the menu, and All Settings has no Advanced Features Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Start Screen Options
Left directional button opens the menu, and All Settings has Advanced Features Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → Advanced Features → Start Screen Options

The third layout is in Samsung’s US manuals for 2023 and 2024 TVs and the UK manual for some small and budget models (such as the UE32H5000F and UE24F6000F). The fourth is in the UK manuals for C-, D-, F- and H-series TVs and the US manuals for 2025–2026. C-series TVs appear in both. US manuals call the menu Start Screen Option.

Turn off the options

  1. Open the menu for your TV using the path above.
  2. Select the option that matches what opens at switch-on: Start with Smart Hub Home (or Autorun Smart Hub), Autorun Samsung TV Plus, or Autorun Last App.
  3. Turn it off. Samsung’s 2018–2026 manuals say you switch Autorun Last App (and, on 2018–2021 TVs, Autorun Smart Hub) on or off by pressing Select on it.
  4. If more than one thing has been opening, turn off each matching option.
  5. Turn the TV off and on again to check.

Autorun Samsung TV Plus is listed only in Samsung’s UK manual for C-series TVs, the UK manual for H-series TVs and the US manuals for 2025–2026 TVs. It isn’t in the UK manual for D- and F-series TVs or the earlier manuals. Samsung says it depends on the model and region, so if you don’t see it, your TV doesn’t offer it there.

Autorun Last App may not work with every app or on every model, according to Samsung.

What the TV shows afterwards

Samsung documents the result for one option only: when Autorun Samsung TV Plus is off, the TV shows the last used source instead. For the other two options the manuals only describe what happens when they’re on; they don’t say what the TV shows instead when they’re off.

So if you want the TV to come on showing your HDMI device, a reasonable approach (based on that last-used-source behaviour, not a separate setting) is to turn these options off and leave the TV on that input when you switch it off. To change input, see Change the input on a Samsung TV.

If the TV still opens something you didn’t choose

  • The TV switches to a device, or turns on, when that device turns on: that’s HDMI-CEC, which Samsung calls Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC). See Samsung Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
  • The Samsung Business TV app opens: some models have an Autorun Samsung Business TV App option, in Smart Features (2021 manual) or Start Screen Options (later manuals; some newer UK manuals place it under General & Privacy even though the other options are under Advanced Features). Samsung notes that if it’s on while Autorun Last App is on, the Business TV app runs at switch-on. Turn it off if you don’t use that app.
  • The Home screen still opens: Samsung’s troubleshooting answer for “the Smart Hub Home screen keeps appearing” is the same setting: check that Start with Smart Hub Home (or Autorun Smart Hub) is off.

Common questions

Will I still be able to use the Home screen and apps?

Yes. These options only control what opens automatically when the TV turns on. Press Home to open the Home screen as usual.

Can I make my Samsung TV always start on HDMI 1?

Samsung’s manuals don’t document a setting for that. The closest documented behaviour is the last-used-source note above.
