Compatibility & scope
Based on Samsung's US English e-manuals for 2020–2026 TVs, each shared by a model year, and the EU English e-manual (BN81-28760C). The covers don't list every model. The manuals describe the Apps screen and installation but not which services are offered; that depends on model and region. Samsung account sign-in options are from the 2025 and 2026 manuals. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware tested for this article.

Find Apps, then Install and Open
To install an app on a Samsung TV, open the Apps screen, select the app, choose Install, then Open when it finishes. Where Apps is depends on your TV’s year:
| TV year | How to open Apps |
|---|---|
| 2026 | Home, then Apps at the top of the Smart Hub Home screen |
| 2024–2025 | Home → left directional button → Home → Apps |
| 2023 | Home → left directional button → Media → APPS |
| 2022 | Home → Menu → Media → APPS |
| 2020–2021 | Home → Apps |
Which apps you can install depends on your TV model and region. If a service isn’t listed, it may not be offered for your TV.
Before you start
The TV needs three things before it can download apps:
- A network connection. If the TV isn’t online, start with the Samsung Wi-Fi guide.
- A Samsung account, signed in. On 2025–2026 TVs, go to Settings → All Settings → Samsung Account. You can sign in by scanning a QR code with your phone’s camera, by typing your email and password, or through Samsung’s website. On 2020–2023 TVs, the Apps screen also has a Samsung Account shortcut, and Samsung says to sign in there before downloading new apps.
- The Smart Hub terms accepted. Samsung says Smart Hub’s additional features and services aren’t available without agreeing to its service agreement. You can read the full terms at Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Terms & Privacy.
Your Samsung account is separate from any account or subscription the streaming service itself requires.
Install and open an app
- Open Apps using the path for your TV’s year.
- Move to the app you want and press Select. Its details screen opens.
- Select Install.
- When installation finishes, Open appears. Select it to start the app.
On 2020–2023 TVs, the Apps screen also has an App Search icon for finding an app by name.
Add the app to your Home Screen
Installed apps are managed from a settings screen on Apps:
- 2024–2026: scroll to the bottom of Apps and open App Settings.
- 2020–2023: select Settings (the gear icon) on the Apps screen.
Then:
- Select the app.
- Select Add to Home.
- When the Home Screen appears, move the app to where you want it.
- Press Select to place it.
If Add to Home is greyed out, the app is already on your Home Screen.
If the TV is low on storage
Samsung says some specific apps can be installed on a USB device when the TV’s internal memory is full. It doesn’t say which apps. An app installed on USB only runs while that USB device is connected, and it can’t run from that drive on another TV or a PC.
To make room, you can delete apps you no longer use from the same settings screen: select the app, then Delete. Standard apps can’t be uninstalled.
Keep apps up to date
In the app settings screen, set Auto Update to ON to update installed apps automatically while the TV is online. The 2021, 2022, 2025 and 2026 manuals also list Update All, which updates every app that has an update available. These are separate from TV software updates, which have their own menu.
