Compatibility & scope
Based on Samsung's US English e-manuals for 2020–2026 TVs (each shared by a model year) and the EU English e-manual BN81-28760C-510. The manuals give the 180-minute maximum but not every selectable interval. Sleep Timer may not be supported in some viewing modes, and features vary by model and region. Set the sleep timer
Samsung’s Sleep Timer turns the TV off after a delay you choose, up to 180 minutes. The quickest route is the quick settings: press Home, open the menu, move to Settings, highlight Sleep Timer and press Select to change the delay.
The full setting moved in 2025. On 2025–2026 TVs it’s in Power and Energy Saving; on 2020–2024 TVs it’s under System Manager → Time.
Use the quick setting
- Press Home. On 2023–2026 TVs, press the left directional button to open the menu; on 2022 TVs, select Menu. On 2020–2021 TVs, move to Settings on the Home screen.
- Move to Settings. The quick settings appear below the menu.
- Highlight Sleep Timer and press Select to change the sleep time.
Find it in All Settings
| TV year | Path in Samsung’s e-manual |
|---|---|
| 2025–2026 | Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Power and Energy Saving → Sleep Timer |
| 2023–2024 | Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → System Manager → Time → Sleep Timer |
| 2022 | Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → System Manager → Time → Sleep Timer |
| 2020–2021 | Home → Settings → General → System Manager → Time → Sleep Timer |
The UK/EU manual uses the same path as 2025–2026.
Sleep Timer, Off Timer or Auto Power Off?
- Sleep Timer: turns off after a countdown, such as 60 minutes from now.
- Off Timer: turns off at a clock time you set, such as 11 pm. It’s in the same menu as Sleep Timer and works only after you’ve set the TV’s clock or time. On 2020–2024 TVs, the quick setting also offers Set Up Off Timer: press the up directional button (2020–2021) or the down directional button (2022–2024).
- Auto Power Off: turns the TV off when the remote and TV controls haven’t been used for a set time. It’s with the power-saving settings (Power and Energy Saving on 2022–2026 TVs).
When the timer won’t work as expected
- Some viewing modes: Samsung says Sleep Timer may not be supported in some viewing modes, without listing them all.
- Art mode (The Frame): Sleep Timer and Off Timer are disabled in Art mode.
- Recording: if a recording or scheduled recording is running, the TV ignores Sleep Timer and Auto Power Off, finishes recording, then turns off.
If the TV turns off when you didn’t expect it
Samsung’s troubleshooting advice is to check whether Sleep Timer is on, and if not, whether Auto Power Off or Off Timer is on. Turn off the one you don’t want. For other causes, such as Auto Power Saving, The Frame’s power button or Retail Mode, see why a Samsung TV turns itself off.
