Compatibility & scope
Based on Samsung's US English e-manuals for 2020–2026 TVs (each shared by a model year) and the EU English e-manual BN81-28760C-510. Shortcut menus and some accessibility options vary by model and region, and Voice Guide speaks only the languages it supports (English always). Streaming apps and external players have their own audio-description settings, which these manuals do not cover. Documentation reviewed; no TV hardware tested for this article.

The fastest way to switch Voice Guide off
Voice Guide is the voice that reads Samsung TV menus aloud, along with actions such as channel and volume changes. To switch it off quickly, press and hold the Volume button on the Samsung Smart Remote for 2 seconds. Accessibility Shortcuts opens; select Voice Guide to turn it off (or on).
Or use the full path: Accessibility → Voice Guide Settings → Voice Guide, then press Select. The table below gives the path for each year.
If the voice describes what’s happening in a programme rather than reading menus, that’s Audio Description, a separate setting. See the last section.
Use the accessibility shortcut
- Samsung Smart Remote: press and hold Volume for 2 seconds. The 2020 manual says 1 second.
- Standard remote, US 2020 manual: press CC/VD, or press and hold MUTE for 1 second.
- Standard remote, UK/EU manual: press AD/SUBT., or press and hold MUTE.
Then select Voice Guide in the shortcut list. Samsung notes the shortcut menus may not appear on some models or in some regions; if yours doesn’t, use the Settings path below.
The shortcut list itself always speaks. Samsung says Accessibility Shortcuts stays voiced even when Voice Guide is off or muted. So if you hear speech in that list, close it and open an ordinary menu to check whether Voice Guide is really off.
Change it in Settings
| TV year | Path in Samsung’s e-manual |
|---|---|
| 2023–2026 | Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Accessibility → Voice Guide Settings |
| 2022 | Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Accessibility → Voice Guide Settings |
| 2020–2021 | Home → Settings → General → Accessibility → Voice Guide Settings |
Highlight Voice Guide and press Select to turn it on or off.
To keep Voice Guide but make it less intrusive, the same screen has Volume, Speed, Pitch and TV Background Volume. Voice Guide speaks the TV’s menu language where supported; English is always supported.
If the voice describes the programme
Narration that describes the video scenes comes from Audio Description in the broadcast, not from Voice Guide. It works only on broadcasts that provide the service. It’s in the same Accessibility menu:
- US 2021–2026: Audio (Video) Description
- US 2020: Video Description
- UK/EU manual: Audio Description Settings → Audio Description
If the description comes from a streaming app or an external player, turn it off in that app’s or device’s audio-track options.
