Compatibility & scope
Based on Samsung's US English e-manuals for 2020–2026 TVs, each shared by a model year, Samsung's UK/EU English e-manuals for 2018–2019 TV families (Kant-M2, Kant-S and Muse), and the EU English e-manual (BN81-28760C). The covers don't list every model. The 2018–2019 path comes only from the UK/EU manuals. Samsung's UK/EU manual for 2017 TVs (Kant-M) doesn't document Power On with Mobile, so 2017 models are excluded; the UK pages also list some 2018 NU7 models under that manual. The 2019–2026 manuals name SmartThings and Apple AirPlay for this feature; the 2018 manuals name only the same-network condition. None of the manuals cover third-party remote apps or describe which standby states it works from. Documentation reviewed; no TV or phone hardware tested for this article.

Turn on Power On with Mobile
To turn on a Samsung TV from your phone, enable Power On with Mobile in the TV’s network settings. Samsung says it works with a phone on the same network as the TV, connected through the SmartThings app or Apple AirPlay.
| TV year | Path |
|---|---|
| 2025–2026 | Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → Connections → Network → Expert Settings → Power On with Mobile |
| 2023–2024 | Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → Connection → Network → Expert Settings → Power On with Mobile |
| 2022 | Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Connection → Network → Expert Settings → Power On with Mobile |
| 2018–2021 | Home → Settings → General → Network → Expert Settings → Power On with Mobile |
The 2018–2019 path comes from Samsung’s UK/EU e-manuals; the 2018 manuals mention only the same-network condition, not SmartThings or AirPlay. Samsung’s manual for 2017 TVs doesn’t include Power On with Mobile, so this guide doesn’t cover 2017 models.
Samsung notes AirPlay may not be supported on some models or in some regions.
Set it up while the TV is on
- With the TV on, open the path for your TV’s year and turn on Power On with Mobile.
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
- Set up the connection on your phone: add the TV in SmartThings (see using your phone as a Samsung TV remote), or use AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad (see AirPlay to a Samsung TV).
- Turn the TV off with the remote, then try turning it on from the phone.
You need a working remote, or another way to reach the TV’s menus, to turn this on. If the remote is lost and the phone was never set up with the TV, this setting can’t be reached from the phone alone. The TV also has to stay plugged in.
Other remote apps
Samsung’s manuals name only SmartThings and AirPlay for this feature. Whether a third-party remote app can turn the TV on depends on that app; check its own compatibility information.
IP Remote is a separate setting
IP Remote is in the same Expert Settings menu. It lets an IP control device, such as a custom home-control system, manage the TV over the network. It needs Power On with Mobile turned on.
Samsung warns that turning IP Remote on may let other IP control devices control your TV. It recommends turning it on only if an authorized third-party custom controller is installed and configured for a Samsung TV, and your Wi-Fi network is password-protected. Samsung describes it for IP control devices, not as part of the SmartThings or AirPlay setup.
