Mirror or stream an iPhone or iPad to a Samsung TV with AirPlay

Turn on Apple AirPlay on a supported Samsung TV, then mirror your screen or send a video from your iPhone or iPad, and what to check if the TV isn't listed.

Applies to: Samsung smart TVs from 2020–2026 that support Apple AirPlay (support varies by model and region), with an iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi network.

Compatibility & scope

TV steps come from US English Samsung e-manuals for 2020–2026, each shared by a model year. Samsung says AirPlay may not be supported depending on model or geographical area, and these manuals don't list which models support it. Phone steps come from Apple's support article, written for iPhone X or later and iPads with iPadOS 13 or later; Control Center layouts can differ in other iOS versions. Mac screen sharing is mentioned in Samsung's manuals but is not covered here. Documentation reviewed; no TV or iPhone hardware tested for this article.

AirPlay works once it’s on at the TV

A supported Samsung TV can receive AirPlay directly. Turn on Apple AirPlay Settings on the TV, put your iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi network, and choose the TV from Screen Mirroring or from an app’s AirPlay button. You don’t need an extra app or adapter. If a passcode appears on the TV, type it on your phone.

Samsung notes that AirPlay may not be supported on some models or in some regions. If the AirPlay setting isn’t in your TV’s menu, the TV likely doesn’t support it.

Turn on AirPlay on the TV

Open Apple AirPlay Settings for your TV’s year and make sure AirPlay is enabled:

TV year Path in Samsung’s e-manual
2025–2026 Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → Connections → Apple AirPlay Settings
2023–2024 Home → left directional button → Settings → All Settings → Connection → Apple AirPlay Settings
2022 Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Connection → Apple AirPlay Settings
2020–2021 Home → Settings → General → Apple AirPlay Settings

Then check that the TV is on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad. Apple requires this, so a phone using mobile data or a different network (a guest network, for example) won’t find the TV.

Mirror your whole screen

Use mirroring to show anything on the phone, such as photos, a game or a presentation. Apple’s steps:

  1. On the iPhone or iPad, open Control Center. On iPhone X or later, swipe down from the top-right corner.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  3. Select your Samsung TV from the list.
  4. If a passcode appears on the TV, enter it on your iPhone or iPad.

The TV switches to your phone’s screen. On models with Multi View, Samsung says the screen can also show your phone alongside other content.

To stop, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then tap Stop Mirroring.

Send just a video from an app

For a film or clip, streaming from the app usually works better than mirroring the whole screen:

  1. Start the video in an app that supports AirPlay.
  2. Tap the AirPlay button. In Photos, tap Share first, then AirPlay.
  3. Choose your TV.

To bring playback back to the phone, tap the AirPlay button again and choose your iPhone or iPad. Apple notes that some video apps don’t support AirPlay.

If the TV doesn’t appear in the list

Work through these in order:

  1. Check the setting. Reopen Apple AirPlay Settings on the TV and confirm AirPlay is on.
  2. Check the network. Make sure the TV and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network. If the TV can’t connect, see the Samsung Wi-Fi guide.
  3. Check the TV supports it. If there’s no Apple AirPlay Settings item in your TV’s menu, the feature isn’t available on that model or in your region.
  4. Check the app. If only one app fails while Screen Mirroring works, that app may not support AirPlay.

Common questions

Can AirPlay turn the TV on?

Samsung’s Power On with Mobile option (in the network settings) can turn on the TV from a mobile device connected through SmartThings or Apple AirPlay, where supported. See turning on a Samsung TV with your phone.

Can I control the TV from my iPhone instead?

That’s a separate feature from AirPlay. See using your phone as a Samsung TV remote.
