Plug wired headphones into Ext.Speaker / H/P OUT
On 2014 LG LB-series TVs, wired headphones connect to the socket labelled Ext.Speaker / H/P OUT, which takes a 3.5 mm jack. This is a wired connection; it isn’t Bluetooth pairing. If your TV has no socket with that label, it doesn’t have this output.
While headphones are connected, the TV’s AUDIO menu items are disabled and optical digital audio output stops working.
LG’s headphone specifications
| Item | LG’s specification |
|---|---|
| Socket | Ext.Speaker / H/P OUT |
| Jack size | 3.5 mm (the manual writes 0.35 cm) |
| Headphone impedance | 16 ohms |
| Maximum headphone output | 0.624–1.04 mW |
| AUDIO menu with headphones connected | Items disabled |
| Optical Digital Audio Out with headphones connected | Not available |
These are LG’s specifications, not a list of tested headphones or adapters.
If optical sound or AUDIO settings disappear
Unplug the headphones and check again. Because headphones switch off the optical output and the AUDIO menu items, a soundbar on optical goes silent while headphones are plugged in. The LG soundbar guide covers the ARC and optical connections.
What the manual doesn’t cover
LG’s 2014 manual shows where headphones connect, but not a full sound-output menu, headphone volume steps, or whether the TV speakers and headphones can play at the same time. For those, use the TV’s built-in User Guide (Smarthome → User Guide). USB and HDMI ports can’t be used in place of the headphone socket.
