Compatibility & scope
Based on three editions of LG's English (UK/EU) webOS TV user guide (w23_mr3_eu03, w24_mr2_eu03, w25_e02), which LG's UK support pages link for the 2023 C3, 2024 C4 and 2025 C5 OLED TVs. The Bluetooth Device steps and limits match across the three; the accessibility setting that lets headphone volume buttons work has a different name in each guide, and Auracast appears only in the 2025 guide. LG says some models don't support these options. The guides don't describe the connection confirmation on screen, how to put a particular headset into pairing mode, or which headphone models work. Documentation reviewed; no TV, headphones or speaker tested for this article.

Pair them under Sound Out → Use Wireless Speaker
To hear a 2023–2025 LG webOS TV through Bluetooth headphones or a Bluetooth speaker, press the Settings (gear) button and go to All Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Use Wireless Speaker → Bluetooth Device. Then select the three-dot icon (⋮) on screen to see devices you can connect, and pick yours. The TV then sends its sound to the Bluetooth device instead of its own speakers.
To keep the TV speakers playing as well, use Use External Speakers with TV Speaker → Bluetooth Device + TV Speaker instead (see below).
LG supports the SBC and aptX Bluetooth codecs. Headsets made only for mobile phones may not work.
Before you start
- Put the headphones or speaker in pairing mode. LG’s guides send you to the Bluetooth device’s own manual for how to connect and use it, so check that manual for its pairing button.
- Charge or power it on and keep it close. LG says sound can stutter or lose quality if the device is too far from the TV, if something stands between them, or near a microwave oven or wireless network equipment.
- Expect your picture mode to change if you game. If Picture → Select Mode is Game Optimiser, choosing Bluetooth Device switches it to Standard.
Connect the headphones or speaker
- Put the headphones or speaker into pairing mode.
- Press the Settings (gear) button on the remote. You can also press and hold it to open All Settings directly.
- Select All Settings (the gear icon on screen), then Sound → Sound Out → Use Wireless Speaker.
- Select Bluetooth Device.
- Select the three-dot icon (⋮) on screen. LG calls it the Option icon in the 2023 guide and More Actions in the 2024 guide. It shows the devices already connected and those you can connect.
- Select your headphones or speaker from the list.
- Play something on the TV and check that the sound comes through the Bluetooth device.
LG doesn’t describe a confirmation message, so the sound itself is the check. For some Bluetooth devices, LG says you can change the device’s volume by selecting it in the connection list.
To go back to the TV’s speakers, set Sound → Sound Out to Use TV Speaker.
Play the TV speakers and Bluetooth together
Sound → Sound Out → Use External Speakers with TV Speaker → Bluetooth Device + TV Speaker plays sound through the TV and the Bluetooth device at the same time, for example so one person can wear headphones while the room listens to the TV. Select the three-dot icon (⋮) on screen to connect the Bluetooth device. LG says the options here depend on the model.
- Line up the sound. Run Audio Delay from this screen to synchronise the TV’s speakers with the Bluetooth device, automatically or by hand.
- Two devices: up to two Bluetooth devices of the same model can be connected in this mode, though LG says some devices can’t connect two at once.
- Game Optimiser switches to Standard, and Dolby Atmos turns off, in this mode.
- Volume: for Bluetooth devices without volume buttons, adjust their volume on the detailed settings screen of Bluetooth Device + TV Speaker. For the headphones’ own volume buttons to work, LG says to set an accessibility option under General → Accessibility to Bluetooth Device. Its name differs by guide: Enjoy TV Sound Together (2023), Listen Together with Hearing Aid (2024), Listen simultaneously with a hearing aid (2025). With that option set, only one Bluetooth device can be connected.
If they won’t connect or the sound drops
- Check the headphones or speaker. LG says to check that the device is powered on and working properly. Put it back into pairing mode and open the device list again.
- Move closer and clear the path. Distance, obstacles, microwave ovens and wireless network equipment can make the sound stutter or lose quality.
- Try one device at a time. LG says some Bluetooth devices may not connect correctly, and that two different Bluetooth devices used together may not stay in sync.
- Check the type of headset. LG says mobile-only headsets may not work.
- Switch to a wired connection. If problems continue, LG recommends a wired connection: the TV’s optical digital output or its HDMI (eARC/ARC) port, set under Sound → Sound Out → Use Wired Speaker.
If the sound is behind the picture
In Bluetooth Device + TV Speaker mode, run Audio Delay. Otherwise, LG’s sync setting is Sound → Advanced Settings → Match Screen and Sound, which adjusts the timing of the speaker that is playing; LG says its options depend on the Sound Out setting. LG also says some Bluetooth devices may cause video and audio to fall out of sync, and that if only some programmes are affected, the broadcast signal may be the cause.
With the Game Optimiser feature turned on (it works with HDMI inputs only; General → Game Optimiser in the 2024 and 2025 guides, straight from the Settings button menu in the 2023 guide), LG warns of audio delay over Bluetooth; it suggests switching to the TV speakers or setting Sound → Advanced Settings → Select HDMI Input Audio Format to PCM.
Common questions
Can two people use Bluetooth headphones at once?
LG’s guides allow it in limited ways. In Bluetooth Device + TV Speaker, up to two devices of the same model can connect. Under Bluetooth Device, LG recommends headsets when connecting two devices, and warns that two different devices may not stay in sync. The 2025 guide adds Broadcasting on Auracast™ (Sound → Advanced Settings) for several Auracast headphones at once, with Sound Out set to Use TV Speaker or Use Wired Speaker; you can’t mix Auracast and non-Auracast devices.
Will my LG soundbar reconnect by itself?
LG says that if the last device connected was an LG Sound Sync device, the TV tries to reconnect to it when it turns on, and recommends connecting an LG audio device in its LG TV or LG Sound Sync mode.
Can I play music from my phone through the TV speakers instead?
Yes, but that’s a different feature. The 2025 guide says to turn on the phone’s Bluetooth and select the TV in the phone’s list of devices; the TV then plays the phone’s sound through its own speakers.
