Compatibility & scope
Based on two Spanish-language Hisense Chile user manuals for R32 wall-mounted split air conditioners, inverter and fixed-speed (Versión Núm. 2134509-09, and 4335627-01, which has the same troubleshooting and display pages). Neither prints a model number. The English labels here are Press Okay's translations, with the manual's Spanish wording given where you may need to match it. Hisense says the display symbols vary by model, so your unit may have only some of the indicators listed. The manuals contain no numbered error codes. Remote-control operation is in a separate Hisense remote-control manual that we haven't reviewed, so this guide gives no remote steps. Only the checks the manual gives an owner are covered; electrical, refrigerant, installation and repair work is out of scope. Hisense cassette, duct and ceiling units, Hisense portables and models sold in other regions may differ. Documentation reviewed; no air conditioner was tested for this article.

Often it’s a built-in delay, not a fault
A Hisense R32 wall split that seems not to work is often in one of its normal waits:
- It won’t start straight away: after you stop it or change the mode, it waits 3 minutes before restarting. After the power is switched on, it starts after about 20 seconds.
- In Heating, no air comes out at first: the indoor fan starts 2 to 5 minutes after heating begins.
- In Heating, the fans stop and the operation light blinks: the unit is defrosting. That usually takes 2 to 10 minutes, then it goes back to heating by itself.
- FC on the display: that’s the filter-cleaning reminder, not a fault. Clean the air filter behind the front panel; units that have a filter reset button (botón de restablecimiento del filtro) behind the panel use it to clear FC.
If none of these fits, work through the checks below. These manuals list no numbered error codes. The source is Hisense Chile’s Spanish user manual, which prints no model numbers; the English names are our translations, with the Spanish words from the manual in italics.
What the indicators mean
Hisense says the symbols may differ on your model, but the functions are similar. Not every unit has every indicator.
| Indicator (Spanish name) | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Temperature (Indicador de temperatura) | The set temperature. Shows FC after 200 hours of use as a filter-cleaning reminder. |
| Operation (Indicador de funcionamiento) | On while the unit runs. Blinks during defrost. |
| Timer (Indicador de temporizador) | On while a timer is set. |
| Sleep (Indicador de suspensión) | On in sleep mode. |
| Compressor (Indicador del compresor) | On while the compressor runs. |
| Mode (Indicador de modo) | Orange in Heating, white in the other modes. |
| Fan speed (Indicador de velocidad del ventilador) | The fan speed, shown as a row of arrows. |
| Smart Wi-Fi (Indicador Wi-Fi inteligente) | On when Wi-Fi is turned on. |
| NANOE (Indicador NANOE) | On in NANOE mode. |
| Fan only (Indicador de modo SOLO) | On in fan-only mode (SOLO VENTILADOR). |
| Airflow toward you / away (flujo de aire hacia usted / alejado) | The selected airflow direction. |
| Humidity (Indicador de humedad) | On in humidity mode. |
| AI (Indicador de funcionamiento inteligente de inteligencia artificial) | On in AI mode. |
The panel also has the signal receiver (Receptor de señal) that the remote must point at.
A red compressor light that stays on while the indoor fan has stopped is also defrost: Hisense says the unit has switched from heating to defrost, and the light goes off within ten minutes when heating resumes.
Use the emergency button if the remote is missing
The emergency button (Botón de emergencia) is behind the front panel of the indoor unit. Pressing it switches the air conditioner on, or off if it’s running.
- With dry hands, lift the front panel open.
- Find the emergency button. Hisense says its symbol may look different on your model, but the button is similar.
- Press it once to start the unit, or once to stop it.
- Close the front panel.
The manual doesn’t say which mode, temperature or fan speed the unit uses when started this way, so you can’t choose them without a working remote.
Checks when it won’t run or won’t cool or heat
Hisense lists these before calling for service:
It doesn’t run at all (No funciona):
- Check whether the protection device has tripped or a fuse has blown.
- Check that the plug is properly connected.
- Wait 3 minutes and start it again. The protection device may have been stopping it.
- Check whether the remote’s batteries are flat.
It runs, but the air isn’t cold or warm enough (No se enfría o caliente el aire):
- Check whether the air filter is dirty.
- Check that nothing blocks the air conditioner’s inlets and outlets.
- Check that the set temperature is right.
It doesn’t respond properly to controls (Control ineficaz): strong interference, such as static electricity or abnormal supply voltage, can upset the unit. Disconnect it from the power, then reconnect it after 2 to 3 seconds.
It doesn’t start immediately (No funciona inmediatamente): changing the mode while it runs causes a 3-minute delay.
Everything stopped: press ON/OFF again to restart. If a timer was cancelled, set it again. The manual also says the unit has an Auto-Restart function, without describing it.
Things that are normal
- A sound of running water: refrigerant flowing in the system, or defrost in Heating.
- A cracking sound: the front panel expanding or contracting as the temperature changes.
- Mist from the air outlet in Cooling or Dry: the room air is being cooled sharply by the air leaving the indoor unit.
- Water dripping from the outlet: with the humidity above 80% and a door or window left open for a long time in Cooling or Dry, condensation can drip from the outlet. Close the door or window.
- An odd smell: smells from furniture, cigarettes and the like can be drawn into the unit and blown back out.
When it stops outside its temperature range
Outside these limits the protection device can stop the unit or make it work badly. Your unit is either inverter (inversor) or fixed-speed (encendido-apagado); the manual doesn’t say how to tell from the unit.
Inverter units
| Cooling | Heating | Dry | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Room temperature | 21–32 °C | 7–27 °C | 18–32 °C |
| Outdoor temperature | Usually up to 43 °C (see below) | −15 to 24 °C | 21–43 °C |
Hisense says the maximum outdoor temperature for cooling is normally 43 °C, but some models reach 46, 48 or 50 °C, and tropical-climate (T3) models 55 °C. Some models keep cooling with −15 °C outside, though cooling works best above 21 °C, and some heat at −20 °C outside or lower. Ask the dealer for your model’s figures.
Fixed-speed units: the protection device may stop the unit when:
- Heating: it’s above 24 °C or below −7 °C outside, or above 27 °C in the room.
- Cooling: it’s below 21 °C in the room.
- Dry: it’s below 18 °C in the room.
Heating isn’t available on cooling-only models.
A note on the remote
After new batteries go in, or when it’s powered up, the remote sets itself to heat-pump operation. Hisense says a cooling-only unit can still be used with the remote in that setting. On some remotes, holding any button lights the backlight for 3 seconds. All other remote functions are in Hisense’s separate remote-control manual, which we haven’t reviewed.
When to stop and call for service
If the unit is behaving abnormally, switch it off with the remote first, then cut the power. Hisense says not to switch it off by tripping the breaker or pulling the plug while it’s running, and not to touch the control panel with wet hands. Don’t repair the unit yourself: Hisense warns that incorrect repairs can cause electric shock. Installation, wiring and refrigerant work are for qualified technicians.
